4 Things You Can Do With Your Blog Post After It Goes Live

You’ve researched, written copy, edited, proofread, sourced images, formatted, and finally–finally–clicked “publish” on your brand new shiny blog post.

Now what?

Obviously, you want people to read it, especially the people for which the information will be useful. And you don’t just want it to be something that is read once and then never sees the light of day again. After all, you put a lot of work into it.

So how can you draw attention to your blog post once it goes live?

Here are four things you can do with your blog once it’s out in the world. These will help you not only draw initial attention to it but will also keep the momentum going months after you publish.

1) Tease it in an email

The best way to reach your audience with your blog is through your own email list. Those who have signed up for your email list are the invested customers who are the most interested in what you have to say. So send them the content they signed up for!

This can be done as a standalone email, a link in your regular newsletter, or both. A teaser or link in your newsletter can simply have the title, a few lines of enticing copy, and a “read more” link that will tempt your followers to read the entire post on your website.

2) Share it on social media

Social media is one of the quickest ways to get the word out about your newest blog. Your company’s social media pages are most likely where your followers will see new content from you first, not your actual website.

Your first step should be to whip up some snappy copy to grab attention, add the blog link, and share it to all of your social platforms. Bonus points if you have a compelling visual with your blog that will automatically be pulled in to catch the attention of casual scrollers.

3) Share its key points as a series of social posts

You don’t have to share your blog just once on social media; you can keep the momentum going by breaking your blog content into multiple social posts. Share the fundamental ideas of your blog post using graphics, charts, visuals or pull a quote. You can also share long-form content posts that lift an entire section of content from your blog.

Your blog can also be used as a jumping-off point for other content and social media posts. For example, if you notice your audience raised specific questions about the blog, why not make a social media post answering those? Another post can discuss reactions your audience had to the blog, either positive or negative, or maybe a differing perspective from the original blog topic. Get creative!

4) Repurpose your blog into other content

A written blog post is only one form of content. Why not repurpose it into something else, since you have already done the majority of the work? This not only gives your blog more mileage, but it can also attract a new audience.

Here are some ways to turn blog posts into other content:

  • Webinar: Turn the ideas from your blog post into a slide presentation with eye-catching visuals, and offer it as a webinar.

  • Podcast: Invite a guest to discuss your blog post (or the topic overall). Record the conversation as a podcast.

  • Video: Create a series of video shorts about your blog post. These do not have to be polished: they can be made-for-social portrait-orientation videos of you explaining different points that you make in the blog post.

  • E-book: If your blog is exceptionally long, or if you have multiple blog posts on similar topics, combine them together into a downloadable e-book available on your website.

Think about where your audience is online, and find a way for your content to reach them.
