Small Business Fractional CMO

Overview

VirtDrop is a boutique staffing agency that matches business leaders with virtual assistants all over the world.

Objectives

After two years of slow but steady success, VirtDrop wanted to accelerate its growth. The company had tried different marketing tactics but didn’t have a cohesive strategy. With a small team of junior associates, VirtDrop was ready to go but needed strategic direction.

Implementation

I served as the Fractional CMO and set the company up with strong foundations for faster growth. This included:

  • Creating a multi-channel marketing strategy to reach the company’s target audiences and to make the most of the company’s existing marketing assets.

  • Leading the research and implementation of a new marketing technology stack that would better suit VirtDrop’s marketing and automation needs. 

  • Crafting key sales materials including a pitch deck, a cold call outreach script, and email drip campaigns for new leads.

  • Preparing for a new website by creating the content strategy and interviewing vendors.

  • Testing messaging and generating demand through email and social media ads.

  • Managing two employees on the marketing and sales teams.

Results

Throughout my seven-month tenure as Fractional CMO, here are a selection of the results I delivered:

  • Within two months, I consolidated the company’s sales and marketing systems into one central CRM and trained the team on how to use it. This gave the growing organization a central source of truth about customers and lead outreach.

  • I set up the marketing and sales communications systems, ensuring that VirtDrop made the most of every new lead.

  • I ran optimized LinkedIn ad campaigns that achieved an average CPC of half the LinkedIn benchmark.
